Return of GSET
This matrix is great! 5th Althea is great! 2nd time Brent’s “Easy to love you” is played. Interesting era as the Dead were always open to suggestions by the A&R guys in the studio or from the record cos. The sound they go with is somewhere between Eagles & Doobie Bros, Nat I should say a bit soft rock’ish for the Dead (at least on Brent’s early tunes) like they’re trying to fit their sound to the sounds that are developing around them. I like Bob singing the high harmony over Brent’s already high voice on this tune.
1st St. of circumstance, which is hilarious with the developing lyrics and the flubs. This is a far cry from what it eventually develops into. Not saying it’s bad, just it cracked me up.
I have yet to see a reviewer on any of the uploads for this date comment on a song that hadn’t been played in a long while. This show marks the return of Greatest Story Ever Told (GSET). I do not know how long it had been up to this point since this song had been played, but I’ve been listening to the archives chronologically and I want to say that this is the 1st post hiatus GSET. I think there must’ve been one or two post hiatus but at this point it’s been a while that they dug this tune back from the Dead (pun intended). Maybe someone with time on their hands can geek out and fact check that.
Otherwise, solid show for ‘79.

I like this one
This may not be the greatest show of the year, but it was a great one to be at. I've been looking for a good copy of this one, and I'm glad I found this recording.
At the time, this seemed like the greatest Shakedown ever. On tape, it's really funky, but I can't say it's the best ever. I really love this version of Greatest Story.
The rest is just solid.

Overlooked hot one
I think many of us overlooked this show because 79 has so many other great shows. Not that I would call this one great but is still darn good. 1st Saint of circumstance. And only a handful of sailors before this night. Also Althea is brand new with it to only being played few times previously .
Sound is pretty good here also, love the 79 Not fades they have different flair to them. This Althea has such a nice bouncy feel to it. Vocals are crystal clear.
So considering this show has not been talked about much over the years I say it is a 4.5 for sound and creativity.
Check it out folks you will be glad you did.
